God's Revelation

The wonder of the Scriptures.

The opening verses of the Epistle to the Hebrews are very definite. They declare that God has spoken. We do well to listen when God speaks. One of the tragedies of life is that people ignore the Bible - the "GOD BREATHED" book that tells us what God wants us to know.

Many misunderstand the Bible. They think it is just a collection of religious thoughts and aspirations. Now the Scriptures are more than this. They are the Divine revelation. Man could never know or guess the identity and attributes of God, but the wonder is that God has made Himself known. The theories of men are but guesses and many of them are way off beam. The apostle Paul said "The eye has not seen and the ear has not heard nor has it entered into the heart of any man the things that God has prepared for those who love Him". The he adds "BUT GOD HAS REVEALED THEM TO US BY HIS SPIRIT". (1Corinthians 2:9-10)

The fact is that all scripture is given to us to know those mysteries hidden from wise men and the Words of God are there to teach, reprove, correct and train in righteousness.

First, God spoke in the Old Testament. In many ways through visions, prophecies, parables, types, symbols, ceremonies and even the audible Voice. In all these various manners, GOD SPOKE. From the time of the close of the Old Testament to the arrival of John the Baptist, GOD WAS SILENT (some 400 years). There was no word from Him. This awesome silence was shattered when the Baptist came from the desert to announce the coming of the King, our Lord Jesus. The time had come for God to speak through His Son.

The Gospels tell HIS STORY. They tell of what He did and what He taught (not everything; John tells us it wouldn't be possible to tell it all nor record it). His teaching has never been surpassed. It was God speaking when He spoke, and God acting when He did anything. One special thing about the Gospels is the particular emphasis on His death and resurrection.

The Acts record tells how the Gospel spread as the early church carried out the command to preach the Gospel to all the world. The Epistles declare the application of those glorious truths into the everyday living of His people. The making of saints! (contd p.5)

Then, the final book, the great Apocalypse, tells of His glorious return in triumph to judge the quick and the dead. The consummation of the wondrous work of redemption which was in the heart of God before He made the worlds.

We do well to listen to the Voice of God. You will only know more about God as you know His Word and obey the truths of what you read. EVERY WORD OF GOD SHALL COME TO PASS.

One of the tragedies of modern life is that so many people ignore the Bible so they know nothing of joy and peace in a troubled world. God has spoken so that we might know and believe and have life indeed.

Whittier in his poem, Miriam, says:

We search the world for truth, we cull
The good, the pure, the beautiful
From graven stone and written scroll
And, weary seekers of the best
We come back laden from the quest
To find that all the sages said
Is in the Book our Mothers read.

No wonder David said "Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path".

Read your Bible daily. Ask God to enable you to see the truth and obey Him. This is the way to peace and contentment.
