Gideon Update

The Loughborough College, which was previously the College of Further Education, has just completed a large project to build new Halls of Residence. They now have about 100 more rooms to accommodate overseas students who spend a year learning English before going on to University courses. As the building was nearing completion I contacted the college and offered to supply Gideon Bibles for the rooms. I was directed to Mr. James, the Welfare officer, who was more than pleased to accept the Bibles, and we made arrangements for them to be delivered as soon as I received them from the publishers.

This was a real answer to prayer but more was to come. We had no sooner placed the order for the five boxes of Bibles than a generous supporter offered to pay for them. He and his wife knew some of the Chinese students who were living in the Halls and, when they heard of our plans, expressed their wish to be involved in providing the Bibles. This meant that when the Bibles arrived they were able to accompany two Gideons to the halls for the presentation. We were received very cordially in the Common Room where we handed over the Bibles and were also able to present complimentary New Testaments to Mr. James and one of his staff.

At this time of the year the Gideons are regularly involved in distributing the Schools’ New Testaments and on 20th November last year some of our Gideons distributed 326 New Testaments to the new pupils at Humphrey Perkins. The headmaster was very encouraging and the pupils were attentive to the introductory talk given by the Gideons, and all the pupils accepted a New Testament. Please pray that these Testaments will be used by God to impact their lives, if not immediately, then at the appropriate time in their lives when they realise the need to seek Him and His salvation through Jesus.
