The Ladies' Fellowship
When Christmas was approaching, we began looking forward to the festivities during the holidays. Our first invitation was to a Christmas party at the Ebenezer Baptist Chapel at Coalville. This consisted of readings, poems, comedy sketches etc from each of the Ladies Fellowships present, which caused lots of amusement. Afterwards a lovely tea was provided by the ladies of the church. We all travelled home safely after a very enjoyable afternoon.
The next date to look forward to was December 14th for our Christmas dinner at “La Foresta” in Woodhouse Eaves. The meal itself was very nicely cooked, but unfortunately was somewhat spoiled by having to wait so long before being served. But the company helped to make up for that. We were very happy to have Howard and Hilary join us and we caught up with each others news. At the end of the meal several ladies who had reached the age of 80 years or more, were each presented with a beautiful cyclamen plant.
Still celebrating, we had our carol service, led by Jan Page, on December 21st, when readings, prayers and poems were read by our own ladies in between carols and a musical item by Alison Ketton and Kat Gibb. The guest speaker was the Mountsorrel minister Rev David Leese who as usual included a few of his magic tricks, which we all enjoyed. At the end of the service we all went into the hall and enjoyed coffee or tea and mince pies, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Our meetings were resumed in the New Year by one of our favourite speakers of many years, Mr Burgess from Barrow, as always his message was most sincere. We also celebrated Jean Morgan’s birthday, with a cake which we all enjoyed very much.
Our next move should be to go on a diet!
