87 + 3 = 90

Grace Lakin first came to QBC when she was 3 years old after her mother moved to Quorn following her father’s death. They lived with her grandparents and all the family regularly attended QBC.
One of the highlights of Grace’s early days is the altering of the inside of the church when the organ was moved from the centre of the church to the side where it is presently situated and the pews were replaced. Following these alterations a baptism was arranged for 22nd March 1931 and this is the occasion when Grace was baptised, along with 3 others.
For more years than Grace can remember she was a teacher in the primary section of the Sunday School and eventually she became the superintendent of this section. Grace very much enjoyed working with the children and is so pleased that ‘children’ of 40 or 50 years ago still get in touch with her and she is always delighted if she finds that they have kept their Christian faith.
God has blessed Grace with practical skills. From the age of 21 Grace arranged the church flowers: for Sundays, weddings, funerals, birthdays, etc. Also she is renowned as the chief trifle maker following in her mother’s footsteps. Mince pies were also a regular speciality.
For many years Grace was a member of the QBC mixed choir and sang both in the church and in other churches in the district.
87 years in Quorn is a long time and Grace has prayed to move several times but she feels that God has never allowed it. She is grateful for her involvement in QBC and currently enjoys being a member of the Ladies Fellowship. She believes that both her family and the church have been the things that have enabled her to keep her faith in God. Her advice is always to keep the faith and to support the church minister. Grace’s favourite Bible verse is the one on her baptism certificate: 2 Timothy 1:12
‘I know whom I have believed and I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him’.
