Gideon Update

The work of presenting New Testaments to the pupils of our High Schools has now been completed for this year. We have also had an experience which has been something out of the ordinary and that was to place Gideon Bibles in each of the signal boxes on the Great Central Railway. Apparently there was a tradition on the original railway of placing bibles in each box as it was commissioned and we were asked to provide them for the three boxes which have just been restored. This proved to be quite an important affair with several members of the GCR trust committee, the Mayor of Charnwood and the railway chaplain.

As we placed the Gideon Bibles in the signal boxes at Quorn, Rothley and Loughborough we had a short service of dedication at each box, and the opportunity to present New Testaments to the signal men. We were then shown around the engine sheds and treated to lunch on their restaurant train.

While we were there we also had the opportunity to present New Testaments to some of the station staff and also to the chef and waiters on the train. It was an enjoyable day out distributing God’s word in an area which was new to us and we hope to share more of our experiences at a Coffee Morning later in the year.

We would like to invite anyone who is interested in our work to come to a Garden Party on Saturday 16th July where you can learn more about the vital work of distributing scriptures here in Leicestershire. We shall also have a member telling of his experiences on a visit with other Gideons to Nigeria. The venue will be in the garden of Orchard House, 102 Main Street, Cossington at 3pm, and will be followed by light refreshments. If you would like to come please let David or Elizabeth know on 266381 as that will help with the arrangements for catering.
