'Which little finger did it bite, this little finger on my right!'
Some of you may remember on Sun May 20th I gave testimony to the Lord's healing of my little finger, well praise be it is still continuing. As I shared then, and forgive the repetition, my finger had become badly crushed and damaged when the top part of a sash window trapped it, with some force I might add, with the top of the bottom window, actually removing a piece of flesh, and exposing both bone and nail bed. This happened on the first night of a Senior Citizens holiday, of which I am a co-organiser, the three of us had 30 in our care for one week, with the prospect of many outings, and myself needed as a wheelchair pusher!
The accident happened at 10p.m so the next four hours were spent in a very efficient A&E department of Scarborough Hospital. After a careful and painful examination by two Doctors, the decision was made that as the finger was too traumatised and damaged to stitch, they would just put a couple of steri-strips on to hold it together, not enough flesh to stitch anyway! An x-ray revealed the end knuckle was cracked and chipped, also the nail would probably have to be removed, and where the flesh was missing I would probably be left with a hole, or large dent! I was to return on Monday to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon who would make any decisions. On return to the Hotel it was me who required help in dressing, rather than the holidaymakers!
The visit on Monday was with some trepidation as you may guess, but the group were praying, they made their way to a Stained Glass workshop, I to the Surgeon! He closely examined the x-rays and rechecked them, gently examined my finger, and made his decision. 'The finger is not cracked, chipped or broken, the nail is all right, I think we will leave it to nature.' To my shame I didn't make any comment about answered prayer, I was too stunned.
Well about two months later, the visits to the District Nurse completed, I still have a dressing on, but just for protection, and the healing continues. Where the flesh was missing new flesh has grown, and in the last couple of weeks the nail whilst very damaged has started to grow, the finger is still swollen, but it is slowly returning to normal. In all of this I give glory to the healing power of my Heavenly Father. I am very grateful to those of you who helped with transport whilst I was unable to drive.
