Ladies' Fellowship
The regular routine of the Ladies’ Tuesday afternoon meetings was broken as some members went on an enjoyable holiday to Eastbourne in June, and by our day out into Derbyshire in July.
Although our day out began dry and grey, the sun came out and everything we saw looked even more beautiful because of it.
Our first stop for coffee was in the village of Youlgrave. There were five “Well dressings” for us to admire and enjoy. A very interesting video, about the making of the “pictures” and numerous examples from the past, was appreciated by those who saw it.
We then moved to Haddon Hall and lunch. A mini bus was arranged to transport most of us from the car park, as it is some distance through the park to the entrance of the Hall. We were all impressed with and delighted by the flower festival arrangements that were in the rooms we visited. The theme was the Royal Houses from the Normans to the Windsors. Then came the pleasure of a garden filled with flowers where we could sit and enjoy the sunshine.
We got a view of Chatsworth House as we went through the park, before finding an excellent place for cakes, scones and tea - another essential for a good day out!
The decision by some of us to return by a scenic route rather than the M1 meant that we were later home than anticipated. However, it was worth it to see the beautiful views across the countryside, in spite having to spend time following a tractor!
