Camp 2003

Words cannot explain how amazing this year at camp was! You really did have to be there to see the beauty, feel the warmth and hear the sound of singing that camp from the Lake District in the week from the 9th to the 16th August 2003.

If I were to tell you all about camp, it would take me a lot longer than the space I have here, so I am just going to describe the most inspiring and wonderful day of the week …

It was on the Wednesday, and the two older groups climbed up “Striding Edge” towards Helvellyn. It was a clear day, so the views were fantastic; it was possibly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! One of the leaders and I had a look round while we were going up and started singing a new worship song called “Beautiful One”. The second verse goes like this …

Powerful, so powerful,
Your glory fills the skies,
Your mighty works displayed for all to see.
The beauty of Your majesty
Awakes my heart to sing
How marvellous, how wonderful You are.

The song just seemed to sum up perfectly how amazing God was, how beautiful the world was, and how much we just wanted to sing about how wonderful he was!

We continued singing for the next 4/5 hours as we reached the top of Helvellyn and progressed back down the other side. We spent the whole day praising God and didn’t stop when we came near confused looking passers-by; our minds were fixed on God and nothing else (not even the height at which we were climbing or the sheer drops on either side!) It was definitely the most spectacular worship session I have ever had – Praise the Lord!

People commented on how nice it was to hear us, and how they could hear us loud and clear from the other side of the valley! That evening we prayed that we would have a lasting impact on the people that heard us and had a further worship session back at the manor that turned into a spontaneous sing, with people rejoicing, clapping and jumping about – all for the Glory of God!

It was possibly the best day of my life, one I will always remember for the ways I felt God with us. People even described it as “a true glimpse of Heaven!” – and I can’t wait till I get there!
