Race for life

First of all – thanks to all those people who gave so generously for my sponsored ‘run’! £200 – brilliant!

Now, I have to confess – yes I lied! I didn’t really run – but I walked really, really fast!! Honestly!

My friend (trainer/torturer!) Christine has a walking speed that normally has me running to catch up anyway. We tried running but really we felt awful and were no quicker so we decided that ‘fast-walking’ was our preferred option. (Also we found that you can’t run and talk at the same time – a BIG drawback!) We finished 10 minutes faster than last year!

The race itself is lovely – if anyone wants to do it next year it’s so easy to join.

Last year I ran in celebration of a cancer survivor, Jan, this year I ran in remembrance of Christine, a friend of my sister.

Everyone wears a memory on their back, so as you complete the course you can read the stories of why women are running for Cancer Research UK.

Some stories are tragic, but more, many, many more are happy stories; mothers and daughters completing the course together; work colleagues all pulling together etc.

The race always starts with a moment of silence for thoughts and prayers for those who have not survived – but ends in JUBILATION for those who have.

It’s such a lovely atmosphere so I shall, hopefully, take part in it until I drop!

Thanks again to those who have helped me along

And please pray for Christine, my trainer, that she might be kinder to me next year!
