The Voice

There is a wonderful statement about John the Baptist in John's gospel chapter 10. The apostle John (who was a son of thunder) became the apostle of love because he found the secret of love in his friendship with Jesus. Speaking of the Baptist and what the people said, he says "He did no miracle but all things that John spake of Jesus were true."

Do you sometimes feel you are very ordinary - have no brilliant gifts or special abilities - very commonplace? Everything the sameness; everything mediocre.

John did no miracle, but Jesus said of him, that "among those born of woman there had not appeared a greater than he." You don't have to be a "wonder" as men think. John you see had one business only - to point to Jesus and bear witness to Him. He was just a voice and he was content to be this, if only men would think of Jesus. John said he wasn't worthy to do the meanest job for Jesus - he was willing to be a voice, heard but not seen.

Remember, doing the smallest thing just for Him transforms all we do. It makes the common things lovely! This is what transforms the ordinary deeds when these are done "for Him".

You may not get on the front page of the paper, or be applauded by men - but if you speak of Jesus you will help men to think of Him - and there is no work more wonderful.

George Matheson said - speaking of when he was gone - I want men to say - he was a good man, he wrought no miracles but he spoke words about Jesus, which led me to know Him for myself.

We need not wonder boys - but those who will speak about Jesus. Be a voice for Jesus - let your motto be, as John's was - He - the Lord Jesus must increase, I must decrease. God give us men and women who will speak the truth about Jesus.

Will you today, and every day, do this? Then, if your life shows likeness to Jesus, men will be led to think of Him, not you! - and that would be wonderful!

Speak just a word for Jesus!

God bless you
