Gideon Update

This last month saw us presenting nearly 360 New Testaments to the Freshers at Loughborough University. We set up our stall in the Freshers’ Bazaar early one Sunday morning in October, flanked by BT taking orders for mobile phones on one side and a lady booking up students to support Save the Children on the other. Our situation meant that many of the students coming into the Union building or going out to the bank cash-machines were walking right past us.

Most of the English students claimed to already have their school New Testaments or walked past without acknowledging us, although a number accepted the proffered book graciously. The most receptive were the foreign students, particularly from mainland China, who were generally interested and willing to stand and talk to us before accepting a copy of our scripture.

Within five hours we had emptied the four boxes of Testaments and it was heartening to feel that we had been able to sow the seed of God’s word in so many lives. We will never know the full extent of the fruit that comes from those efforts but please pray with us that the Holy Spirit will use the Word to bring many lives to salvation in Jesus.

Please pray also for the distribution of New Testaments to the pupils of Humphrey Perkins school which will take place soon. Many of those pupils will be from Quorn, but wherever they live we know that, for some, their New Testament may be the only copy of God’s Word to go into that household. We trust that He will use it to His glory.
