First Steps
Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you God for everything.
This was the theme for our craft at the beginning of this term and also reminded us of harvest when we thank God for His goodness to us. We made pictures of flowers, iced biscuits and made a bird mobile. Other crafts have been of autumn, bonfires and fireworks and now we are getting ready for Christmas. One highlight recently has been making hand prints which will be mounted with a little poem and then laminated so they can be kept or given as presents. This is always very messy for adults and children alike but great fun (how did Carol Murphy get paint on her face?!)
On December 2nd and 5th at the end of First steps we will be putting on impromptu Nativity Plays. This is a new venture for us and the idea is for the children to dress up if they want to and we will ‘act’ out the Christmas story and sing some simple carols. Anything could happen and probably will but please pray that all go will go well and something of the Christmas message will be understood by all who come. We are inviting other friends and relatives of the children to join us and church folk too are very welcome to come along. Just pop in to the main part of church at 11 am – we expect it to last about half an hour.
We will be holding our Christmas parties on December 9th and 12th which will also mark the end of this term. We begin again after Christmas on January 6th.
First Steps is very popular and obviously meets a great need in the community and is an important part of the outreach of the church but we could do with more help to run it. If you feel you would like to get involved or just want to find out more, please speak to Alison Shipway.
